HUGS (Healing Under God’s Strength)

HUGS is an Outreach Ministry to the homeless and hurting in Detroit.  We go one Saturday a month (date varies) from 10:00 am – approximately 2:00 pm, we build relationships within the city of Detroit by sharing the Gospel, praying with people, and giving away basic lunches and goody bags to those in need.

Fridays before the outreach, we make sandwiches and prepare goody bags.  Let us know if you can help!

Nursing Home Ministry

Every 3rd Saturday at 1:15, we go a local nursing home and visit, pray with people, and have a service.

Pastor Robert and his wife, Marlene, lead the way along with some great volunteers!

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20

Good News Gang Metro – Local Missions in Detroit!

gng 1

Since 1989, Good News Gang has been committed to equipping the children of Detroit to become leaders of the next generation.

Good News Gang is committed to providing hope and building futures for children living in adverse conditions. Whether faced with the physical effects of poverty or the dangers of gangs, violence, abuse and hopelessness, we want to see children’s lives placed on a new path through the life-changing love of Christ. By meeting children where they are, personally investing in their lives and presenting the Gospel in a fun, accessible way, we believe we can build foundations that lead to hope, a future and better lives for precious children.

We accomplish this in several ways:
• Helping children encounter the hope and love of Christ through our weekly Saturday program, summer camps and personal mentorship.
• Investing personally in the lives of the children we serve through consistent one-on-one relationships, weekly home visits and child sponsorship.
• Meeting physical needs to help personal and spiritual growth, such as school supplies, coats and food.

The Villarreal’s – Missionaries In Nicaragua

Jose and Liz Villarreal know that they are called to serve as full time missionaries in Nicaragua.  Their family mission statement is that God would use them to bring cultural transformation to families and fatherless children through the demonstration of the power of God (healing, signs and wonders) as well as establishing the standard of righteousness and excellence through the kingdom of God in the nations.  You can read more about them on their website, widowsoil.net.

The Villarreal’s currently have a special need.  To read more about it and see how you can help, click here for their newsletter.

Folks in Michigan continue to face very difficult financial circumstances, and many are unable to provide for the needs of their families. Lighthouse desires to help people in need in our local community, so we established the LHIC Food Pantry in 2010. We also offer Free Food Boxes, where on the 1st Wednesday of the month, we open up our food pantry to families in Southeast Michigan from 3-5pm. For more information, please call us at 734.536.2344 or E-mail us at info@lhic.org. Please note: You must be a Livonia or Westland resident to receive a free food box.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ – Matthew 25:34-36

Bad water is the “silent killer” in the world today.  Although it doesn’t get the media coverage of wars and natural disasters, it is responsible for more deaths each year than global conflict.  In 2011, Lighthouse partnered with Life Outreach International – our church raised money to build a well in the Sudan region of Northern Africa. It was an awesome experience. Something as simple as a village well can become a fountain of life for an entire community, a beacon of hope in the desert of desperation. Our well brought not only clean water to thirsty mouths but also the message of Christ to their hearts!

“But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” – John 4:14

Door2Door Witnessing

Lighthouse goes door to door from time to time, inviting our friends and neighbors out to church. It’s fun! We believe that everyone deserves a chance to hear the Good News, and we’ll come to you!

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” – Acts 1:8

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” – Colossians 4:6
